I have a few games that I’ve bought expansions for and those expansion boxes are empty because I fit everything somewhere else, but I’m hesitant to throw out the empty boxes.

Often expansion components don't fit, meaning you have to keep/carry the expansion box, too. Clean up will take a bit longer as pieces will need to be put in their proper compartment.
