A San Diego County Library branch hired Annette Hubbell to portray Harriet Beecher Stowe, Mary McLeod Bethune, and Harriet Tubman as part of a “tribute to ordinary women who became extraordinary.” But three months after booking her, the library administration asked her only to portray white women in her performance.
